Rubén Callejas, former Commercial Manager of the Medellín Lottery and former Deputy of Antioquia, has addressed the controversy surrounding the alleged fixed prizes in the Mother’s Month lottery draw.
After Luisa Jaramillo, the wife of Rubén Callejas, won one of the biggest prizes, Callejas issued a statement on Instagram asserting that “there was no illegality in the operation.” He reiterated that the ticket had been “legitimately purchased as a Mother’s Day gift,” a claim also supported in an earlier statement by the Medellín Lottery, which defended the legality of the purchase.
He further explained that after legal deductions, his wife received a net gain of approximately COP 664m ($170,000), and not COP 16bn as it was initially reported by the Colombian press.

The controversy prompted the Office of the Inspector General to initiate a preliminary investigation and led the Medellín Lottery to commission an independent forensic audit.
It was later emphasized that both the internal review and the external assessment by cybersecurity firm Trustid found no evidence of manipulation in the draw process.
According to the former official, “the audit concluded that the system operates with high standards of automation, minimizing human intervention.”
