Brazil steps up anti-fraud training for sports betting

Key Points
- The initiative is part of a cooperation agreement with five global sports integrity entities
- Brazil aims to roll out continuous education programs for public servants and athletes
In a new effort to strengthen the integrity of sports, the Brazilian Ministries of Sport and of Finance have partnered with Sportradar to launch specialised training focused on combating match-fixing and suspicious betting patterns.
That training, held in Brasília, is part of a broader cooperation agreement signed between the Brazilian Government and five leading sports integrity entities, including Sportradar, and has now begun.
During the session, Sportradar shared technical knowledge on identifying irregularities in sports betting markets. Attendees also included officials from the Secretary of Prizes and Betting (SPA). The program marks the beginning of a continuous training initiative targeting not only public servants but, eventually, athletes as well.
Giovanni Rocco Neto, Brazil’s Secretary for Sports Betting and Economic Development, emphasised the importance of these efforts: “We’re discussing manipulation in football, the biggest Brazilian passion, but our concern is with the integrity of all national sports.”
Good to know: This initiative complements broader efforts by the Brazilian Government to increase oversight in the gambling sector. Recently, the Senate also expanded its investigation into influencer involvement in online betting promotions
Felippe Marchetti, Sportradar’s Director of Integrity for Latin America, explained that the training covered market overviews, legal frameworks, and technical insights on how betting monitoring systems detect anomalies: “We’re building ideas and policies together to tackle this phenomenon, which is complex not only in Brazil but across Latin America and the world.”
The Ministry of Sport also signed cooperation agreements with SIGA, IBIA, ABFS and Genius Sports. These organisations will support Brazil’s push for better monitoring, education and prevention tools across the betting ecosystem.
