A Texas-based bet technology company called Micro-Gaming Ventures has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against DraftKings. The company alleges DraftKings has infringed five patents.
Micro-Gaming Ventures filed the suit in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey, a state that has personal jurisdiction over DraftKings “due at least to DraftKings’s substantial business.”
According to the court documents, Micro-Gaming Ventures filed its first provisional patent application in August 2010.
“These efforts resulted in the development of systems and methods for enabling remote-device users to wager on ‘micro-events’ of games in a data network accessible gaming environment in the early 2010s,” the suit claimed.
Furthermore, Micro-Gaming Ventures alleged it “has been harmed by DraftKings’s infringing activities” and said DraftKings “has and continues to directly infringe’ on each of the five patents ‘by making, using, selling, importing and/or providing and causing to be used a website and mobile-phone app called ‘DraftKings Sportsbook.’”
Micro-Gaming Ventures has called for a trial by jury in the suit, according to legal paperwork.
In other DraftKings news, sports betting engagement tools provider MetaBet recently signed a content agreement with the company to enhance the company’s entertainment and sports platform.
“The agreement will see MetaBet integrate its contextual widgets into DraftKings Network’s betting and fantasy analysis,” MetaBet said in a statement.
Also known as “The Action Spot,” DraftKings Network was developed to “helps fans navigate the 24/7 whirlwind of in-on-the-action lifestyle” through insights, data, angles and personalities, as well as through betting and fantasy perspectives.
The network covers “major sports and everything in between, equipping its community with everything one needs to know to make sound betting and fantasy decisions.”
