Missouri Gaming Commission warns players of fraudulent operators

An official Consumer Protection Alert has been issued by the Missouri Gaming Commission, warning players in the state not to engage with any fraudulent sites claiming to be operating regulated online casinos.  

As such, the MGC has reminded citizens that online casinos are – and for the time being shall remain – illegal in the state of Missouri. This directive comes following the continuous proliferation of illegal online casino websites surfacing across the US market. Now, the MGC claims these scam sites have been issuing false advertisements stating that Missouri Casinos are going live in the state via social media – to drive players toward their illegal casino operations.  

As part of its official warning release, the MGC issued the following statement, “Online casinos are illegal in Missouri. Any claims otherwise should be treated as highly suspicious. These scams not only put players at a financial risk, but they also undermine the integrity of Missouri’s regulated gaming industry. 

“Due to their unregulated nature, MGC is unable to resolve complaints and disputes arising from unregulated and illegal gaming sites, leaving victims with little to no chance of recovering lost funds. It is important to remember that just because you can download the app, visit the website, and play the games, it does not mean it is a legitimate and legal gaming platform.”  

Building on this statement, the Commission has requested that any players who encounter these sites or fall victim to scams pertaining to fraud, identity theft or general suspicious online activity report the URL to the Federal Internet Crune Complaint Center.  

Good to know: Missouri is currently in the process of legalizing sports betting but has recently run into regulatory delays 

Earlier this month, the MGC revealed that Missouri’s regulated retail casino locations generated a combined revenue figure of $177.9m during March 2025 – up 17% year-over-year.

Elsewhere, similar warnings pertaining to casino-related crime operations have emerged from the Asian market – with a particular focus being drawn on the Southeast region.
