Tribal leaders to debut self-exclusion program for participating casinos

Key Points
- The program will launch in Wisconsin during March 2025 before expanding to other states in collaboration with fellow Tribal gaming commissions
- An advisory board was also established for the program, including leaders from multiple Tribal gaming commissions
To help enhance responsible gaming efforts and community well-being, Tribal gaming leaders have provided support for a new Tribal-wide self-exclusion program set to debut in Wisconsin during March 2025.
The program was founded by the Tribal Council for Responsible Gaming, in partnership with idPair and the Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling, enabling individuals to voluntarily exclude themselves from all participating Tribal casinos in sovereign nations and territories.
“This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to the health of our people and communities,” Tribal Council for Responsible Gaming CEO Ivory Kelly said.
“By Tribes coming together to offer a streamlined process for self-exclusion with a technology partner that shares our values, we help people in our communities who are looking to take a break or stop gambling do so for the amount of time they need.”
Following the launch in Wisconsin, expansion to other states will be completed in collaboration with participating Tribal gaming commissions.
An advisory board was also established for the program, which includes leaders from Tribal organizations such as Wondr Nation, National Tribal Gaming Commissioners/Regulators and the Indian Gaming Association of Washington DC. Members include Anika Howard, Jamie Hummingbird, Oscar Schuyler, Ernie Stevens and Tamara Van Schyndel.
Good to know: Heritage Distilling Company and the Coquille Indian Tribe of Oregon broke ground on the state’s first Tribal-owned distillery on February 5, which is expected to be opened to the public by the end of 2025
Stevens serves as Chairman of the Indian Gaming Association in Washington DC and spoke on the new program, having said, “Tribal nations have long been at the forefront of promoting responsible gaming practices, demonstrating leadership through our actions.
“This initiative not only underscores the commitment of Tribal nations to player protection but also sets a precedent for others to follow. We encourage all Tribal leaders and regulators to extend their consideration in joining this program, expanding its reach and reinforcing our collective dedication to responsible gaming.”
The self-exclusion platform, provided by idPair, is designed to comply with local regulations, protect Tribal sovereignty and effectively serve the needs of diverse communities.
