Additionally, the NIGC is hosting a special emphasis virtual session on human trafficking prevention, Advancing the Fight Against Human Trafficking, on January 31, 2025.

Key points:

- The hour-long video is in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Countering Human Trafficking and Blue Campaign

- The training video was said to provide an additional training resource for the Tribal gaming and hospitality industries

The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) has released a new human trafficking training video resource in order to help raise awareness and support victims during National Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

“Human trafficking is a crime that affects men, women and children of all ages across the United States and Tribal communities are not immune. To the extent that it impacts the larger entertainment and hospitality industries, including Indian gaming, Tribes have demonstrated that they want to combat it,” NIGC Acting Chairwoman Sharon Avery said.

“To assist in those efforts, NIGC provides these resources as part of our responsibility to ensure public health and safety of Tribal gaming under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.”

The hour-long video was made in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Countering Human Trafficking and Blue Campaign, providing an additional training resource for the Tribal gaming and hospitality industries.

“I have witnessed how Tribes and their gaming enterprises are proactively addressing human trafficking while fostering safe communities. This online resource is an extension to their collaborations with local programs and federal agencies in addressing human trafficking,” NIGC Vice Chairwoman Jeannie Hovland said.

“It will provide Tribal gaming and hospitality workers, as the first contact with patrons, accessible training to effectively identify and safely respond to suspicious human trafficking activities.”

Good to know: In connection with National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, the MGCB took initiative to raise awareness in an effort to combat human trafficking on January 16

Additionally, the NIGC will host a special emphasis virtual session on human trafficking prevention, Advancing the Fight Against Human Trafficking, on January 31, 2025.

Speakers from the Seminole Tribe of Florida and Hard Rock International will share how they are advancing the fight against human trafficking through innovation, collaboration, community support programs and education initiatives.
