Washington DC posts sports wagering handle of $58m for September

The District of Columbia’s Office of Lottery and Gaming has posted Washington DC’s official sports wagering figures for September, revealing overall betting handle of $58m.
FanDuel was the district’s largest contributor, generating wagering handle of $30.5m, over double that of its closest competitor in DraftKings, whose handle reached a figure of $14.9m for the month.
Further, FanDuel experienced the highest gross gaming revenue (GGR) for the month of September, generating $4.3m for the month and trailed once again by DraftKings, whose GGR settled at a figure of $2.1m.
After initially entering Washington DC’s market in April, FanDuel has quickly risen to gain an average market hold of 14.36% as of the latest figures. Similarly, DraftKings followed the operator into the district in July and now yields an average market hold of 14.13%. Most recently, Caesars expanded its retail offerings into the jurisdiction in September, generating a GGR of $1.03m for the month, with a total wagering handle of $5.8m.
Figures from across the US market for the month of September have begun to filter in, with Detroit releasing mixed retail gaming results that highlighted an 8.6% revenue decrease for table games when compared to figures from August, despite rising by 1.2% year-on-year.
Elsewhere, North Carolina revealed its third highest ever sports wagering handle since the market’s launch, with gross wagering revenue settling at a figure of $70.1m – a 55.3% revenue rise in comparison to that of August 2024.
