Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb’s office recently announced that Indiana Gaming Commission Executive Director Greg Small will step down from his current role. He will leave the agency effective September 20.
Small has lead the agency for the past three years and has served with the commission since 2016.
During his time with the commission, Terre Haute Casino resort was approved for a casino license. The state’s latest commercial casino celebrated its grand opening April 5 and opened its hotel on May 15.
The destination is owned and operated by Churchill Downs Incorporated. Terre Haute’s casino floor is home to 1,000 slot machines, along with 36 table games that offer blackjack, craps, roulette and poker, as well as to a new sportsbook.
General Counsel Dennis Mullen will serve as the regulator’s leader “in an acting capacity,” according to an Indiana Capital Chronicle local news report.
Mullen has served with the commission for the past nine years. He holds a bachelor’s in political science from DePauw University, as well as a Juris Doctor from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
Holcomb told local news that the agency will be “in good hands” with Mullen.
He went on to commend Small for his work with the organization by saying, “Greg’s knowledge and expertise has been invaluable in leading the Indiana Gaming Commission effectively and efficiently.”
Sports wagering in Indiana has been legal since September 2019. Governor Holcomb signed the statewide regulated sports betting bill into law a little more than a year after the US Supreme Court overturned PASPA.
