MGC reports $500.7m handle from online sports wagering for June

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has released the financial report for online and retail sports wagering as well as its physical casino locations for the month of June. In Massachusetts, currently three brick and mortar casino locations were accounted for, including Encore Boston Harbor, Plainridge Park Casino and MGM Springfield.
From the three properties, Massachusetts reported $96.1m in gross gaming revenue (GGR), with Encore Boston Harbor leading the way with just under $60.4m of revenue generated during the month of June. MGM Springfield reported $21.9m in GGR, while Plainridge Park Casino was responsible for $13.8m in GGR reported by the Commission.
In retail sports wagering, GGR actually suffered a loss of nearly $600k, but online offerings generated just over $41m in GGR, leading to a combined total of just under $40.5m. Massachusetts currently reports figures for six online sports betting operators, including DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, FanDuel, Fanatics and ESPN Bet.
Slots GGR led the way for each of the three properties, with Encore Boston Harbor reporting $34.9m in revenue from slots compared to $25.5m from table games. MGM Springfield generated $17.5m in GGR from slots, while $4.4m came from its table games. Plainridge Park Casino only reported slots GGR, generating all of the $13.8m in reported revenue previously stated.
$500.7m was reported to be the handle for online sports betting in Massachusetts for June, with an additional $8.6m being reported from retail locations. DraftKings and FanDuel led the way for which operators reported the most handle for June, with DraftKings coming in at $263.7m and FanDuel reporting $141.4m. BetMGM reported $34m in handle for June, while ESPN Bet and Fanatics reported $21.8m and $20.2m respectively. Caesars sportsbook reported a June handle of just under $20.2m.
The $509.5m handle from sports betting in June represents a slight decrease from the $587.3m handle reported in May. The decrease most likely stems from the NBA and NHL playoffs coming to an end, with MLB and soccer the remaining active sports in the US.
