MGC sets July 2 launch date for Bally Bet

Bally Bet has had its temporary license for around 18 months and is the last of the operators approved for a 2023 launch to do so.
In a meeting conducted on July 1, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission announced a launch date of July 2 for Bally Bet to offer online sports betting for residents. Bally Bet opted to sit out an universal launch in March 2023, but renewed its temporary license earlier this year at a cost of $1m.
Bally Bet will become the seventh operator to launch in Massachusetts, following in the footsteps of BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, ESPN Bet, FanDuel and Fanatics.
On June 26, Kathleen Kramer, Interim Chief Enforcement Counsel for the MGC, confirmed that all temporary occupational licenses had been approved for Bally’s to launch its sports betting sector. Karalyn O’Brien, Chief of the Licensing division, also confirmed that the review of vendors was complete.
“I think that the collaboration and communication from your guys’ group was at the highest and most professional level,” Bally’s COO Brett Calapp said during the meeting.
“As an operator, I think that is really, really appreciated to have that kind of cohesive communication during the licensing journey because it is complex and there are a lot of moving parts to it and there are a lot of people involved in it.”
Massachusetts will become the eighth state in which Bally Bet is available to consumers, also having gone live in Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, New York, Ohio and Virginia.
Indiana was one of the most recent launches for the operator having done so in March while also opening a retail sportsbook at its Bally’s Evansville casino property.
