Michigan Gaming Control Board doubles contribution to Compulsive Gambling Prevention Fund
The organization increased its donation amount from $3m to $6m.
Michigan lawmakers have come to an agreement on the Great Lakes State’s budget for the 2025 fiscal year. With the approved changes, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has increased its annual contribution to the Compulsive Gambling Prevention Fund to $6m. This is double what the board has contributed during previous years.
The MGCB’s contribution will go to support problem gambling research and education geared for a youth audience, existing treatment options and enhancements to the 24/7 Gambling Disorder Helpline.
The new budget also includes a funding amount of $1.9m that will be used to support additional staffing at the MGCB.
Funding set aside will allow another 14 staff positions at the MGCB.
The Board said in a statement, “These positions are necessary to support the agency’s internet gaming and sports betting regulatory operations in one of the fastest-growing US gaming markets, expand the MGCB’s regulatory capacity, and enhance protections against illegal activity.”
MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams took a moment to commend the state government for its support.
He said, “I extend my deepest gratitude to Governor Whitmer and the legislature for their commitment to enhancing the Michigan Gaming Control Board’s operations with their support of additional FTE positions, underscoring their dedication to strengthening the agency and its regulatory efforts.
“Moreover, the MGCB’s increased contribution, from $3m to $6m, to the Compulsive Gambling Prevention Fund demonstrates our proactive approach towards responsible gaming. Together, we are safeguarding the integrity of the industry while prioritizing the well-being of Michigan citizens.”
Michigan recently welcomed two new BetMGM online slot games, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Cheers.
These games are the latest release of BetMGM’s TV and blockbuster-themed movie and show slot titles, joining the recently launched Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Godfather and Charlie’s Angels games.
