The technology will be used to bolster LeoVegas' global mobile gaming offering.

LeoVegas and MGM Resorts are set to acquire Tipico Group’s US sportsbook technology, following an agreement between the two.

The technology will be used as part of LeoVegas’ technology stack, helping power the operator's mobile gaming offering, which includes sports betting, online casino and live casino.

Despite the acquisition being of Tipico’s US sportsbook technology, the technology is set to be used internationally across LeoVegas’ operations. LeoVegas operates in multiple territories around the world, including Sweden, Spain, Germany and the UK. In 2022, a decade after launching, the business was purchased by MGM Resorts International.

In a video announcing the acquisition posted to LeoVegas’ LinkedIn page, CEO Gustag Hagman explained, “The team at Tipico US has successfully and impressively managed to develop an incredible tier-one sportsbook platform in just a few years. Now, we want to continue to invest in this purpose-built sportsbook technology and use it to power our global ambitions.”

Chief Product and Technology Officer Mattias Wedar added, “This greenfield sportsbook – which features both simple and superior UX – is built for a multi-brand and multi-jurisdiction environment and that’s exactly what LeoVegas Group needs as we continue to expand internationally with our hero brands LeoVegas and BetMGM.”

Hagman continued, explaining the business' desire to complete technological aspects of its operations in-house. By acquiring Tipico US’ sportsbook technology, LeoVegas will be able to continue to deliver in this capacity.

Hagman also spoke of the business' acquisition of Push Gaming last year, which at the time was described by MGM Resorts International Interactive President Gary Fritz as, “Consistent with our vision to expand MGM Resorts' digital gaming presence internationally.”

Earlier this month, Thunderkick went live in Ontario with PokerStars and LeoVegas, with a range of the supplier's games including 12 Bolts of Thunder, Midas Golden Touch 2 and Midas Golden Touch Reborn becoming available on the LeoVegas platform.
