55th Annual WSOP commences with Jonathon Marchessault
The Vegas Golden Knights and Stanley Cup champion carried out the Shuffle Up & Deal ceremony at Paris Las Vegas.
Following a record-breaking series in 2023, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2024 series has been officially kicked off at Paris Las Vegas and Horseshoe Las Vegas by Canadian Ice Hockey right wing Jonathon Marchessault.
The current Vegas Golden Knights Stanley Cup champion performed the Shuffle up and Deal ceremony to open the first weekend of competition at the WSOP event. Marchessault was then joined by last year’s WSOP Main Event Champion, and current world number 3, Daniel Negreanu, as part of the performance – followed by a sit-down discussion with the poker champion for some strategic pointers.
Golden Knights right wing, Marchessault, commented on the opening event, saying, “I’ve heard about how special the World Series of Poker is, but seeing all of this energy today with former champions on hand really drives home the magnitude of this event.
“While I’d rather still be on the ice fighting for a championship, sitting down to give it a shot in my first competitive poker tournament against WSOP legends is a nice consolation. The WSOP holds a special place in Las Vegas history, and I am so glad I could come out and be a part of it today.”
Also commenting on the opening of WSOP 2024 was the WSOP Executive Director, Ty Stewart, who said, “What a way to start out the 2024 World Series of Poker as we aim for our biggest and best series ever, following the record-setting summer that took place last year.”
Earlier this week, the World Series of Poker announced the debut of its real-money poker platform – entitled WSOP Online – in collaboration with Caesars Entertainment.
