Pennsylvania regulator issues $20,000 in fines

Two operators, Stadium Casino and DraftKings, were fined for violating statewide regulations.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has issued $20,000 in fines to two local operators after approving two consent agreements sent by its Office of Enforcement Counsel.

The board held a public meeting to levy the fines against Stadium Casino and Crown PA (DraftKings).

Stadium Casino, an internet casino, received a $10,000 fine due to “offering unapproved college prop bets through its subcontracted Betway platform.”

The $10,000 against DraftKings was for allowing Pennsylvania players “to access its “Reignmakers” fantasy contests after the board had ordered the contests to be made unavailable in the Commonwealth.”

Fines issued this month were significantly lower than those imposed in February. The PGCB levied $212,500 in fines last month and approved three consent agreements against casino operators for underage gambling and for “insufficient protocols.”

The board is scheduled to meet at 10AM April 24 for its next meeting in Harrisburg’s Strawberry Square Complex.

In other PGCB news, the regulator recently teamed up with several state organizations to raise public awareness regarding problem gambling during National Problem Gambling Awareness Month.

The PGCB partnered with the Council on Compulsive Gambling of Pennsylvania (CCGP), Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP), Pennsylvania Lottery and an individual in long-term recovery on the project.

“Every Story Matters” is the theme for this year’s National Problem Gambling Awareness Month, which is celebrating its 21-year anniversary. This year, the focus will be on educating the public on treatment and recovery services, as well as encouraging healthcare providers to screen for problem gambling when treating their clients.
