Gaming compact signed between South Dakota and Rosebud Sioux Tribe
A signing ceremony took place on Thursday.
Governor of South Dakota, Kristi Noem, held a signing ceremony on Thursday involving a gaming compact between the State of South Dakota and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.
The gaming compact was signed after what had been nearly three years of discussions and negotiations. The agreement itself will last for 10 years and will allow the Rosebud Sioux Tribe to access more gaming machines.
Noem gave her views on the signing of the gaming compact saying, “It is a new beginning and a new partnership that is built on relationships.”
The last compact signed between Rosebud and South Dakota occurred back in 2009, according to Rosebud Tribal President, Scott Herman, commentating that,“It’s a long time coming. Our last compact was done in 2009, so it’s been about 14 years.”
Herman further highlighted: “The Rosebud Sioux Tribe is growing the South Dakota economy. We seek to create new jobs and revitalize our casino near Valentine, Nebraska.
“South Dakota agreed to increase machine numbers to create more job opportunities for our tribe. Gaming, hospitality and tourism equals economic activity.”
“It is a new beginning and a new partnership that is built on relationships,” said Governor Noem.
In related news, last week, Senator George Borrello urged the state of New York to establish a new gaming compact with the Seneca Nation before the end of the year, with the current compact which the Seneca Nation holds with the state of New York expiring December 9.
