Jackpot on aisle three? Illinois supermarket approved for gaming license

Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets will add five video gambling terminals to its Mount Prospect location, only four months after applying for a gaming license.

A Chicagoland supermarket has been given a video gambling license. Mount Prospect, Illinois, opened an Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets grocery store in May this year, and applied for a gaming license in June.

The petition for a gaming license, submitted to Mayor Paul Hoefert, was granted as another requirement was waived. Usually, establishments with liquor licenses must be in operation for a least a year before approval for video gambling can be agreed.

The downtown Mount Prospect supermarket has been approved for a two-year gambling license by The Illinois Gaming Control Board. Locations of Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets in other Illinois suburbs such as Addison, Bloomingdale, Elmwood Park, Hanover Park, South Elgin and Naperville currently already contain video gambling machines.

According to local reports, Hoefert commented on the success of the new market which has been “incredibly well received,” while representatives of the grocery chain have also mentioned that there have been no issues with gambling at its other locations.

Five gaming devices and one payment machines will be added to the market and the area in which they’re house will be age-restricted to patrons 21 years and older. A seven-foot wall will also obstruct the light and sound of the machines from getting into the rest of the shopping area.

Employees will be able to monitor the games, as they will be behind the customer service desk. The location is also close to the market’s bistro, where patrons can order alcoholic beverages.
