Wapner Newman sues Parx Casino for ‘negligent security’
The firm alleges lack of security led to a brutal robbery and assault of a casino guest.
Philadelphia personal injury firm Wapner Newman has filed a lawsuit against Parx Casino for an innocent that occurred earlier in the month. The casino guest is a 71-year-old man who alleges that he was the victim of robbery and assault while on the property.
The assault and robbery in question occurred on October 1 around 2:30AM. According to the court documents, another Parx Casino patron was allegedly involved in the assault. The documents go on to claim that “the Casino’s security staff and surveillance modalities failed to protect and prevent the attack, failed to intervene during the attack, and failed to timely respond after the attack.”
Wapner Newman Managing Partner Robert Miller noted the importance of responding quickly to criminal activity, and how speed is crucial to protecting customers.
Miller commented: “Parx is obligated to keep its patrons safe. The way to ensure safety and protect its patrons is to prevent criminal activity or detect and respond to incidents in a rapid manner.”
Miller went on to add that the firm remains committed to “seeking justice.”
He said: “Wapner Newman will dedicate our resources to seeking justice for this client and future Parx patrons. Residents of Bucks and surrounding counties deserve better than what our client got from Parx.”
Wapner Newman’s Catastrophic Injury Group Partner Julianna Burdo took a moment to comment about security measures at Parx and noted they did not meet a “reasonable expectation.”
Burdo said: “Our client trusted that Parx would provide him with a safe place to gamble and to come and go in a safe manner. Parx utterly failed to meet this reasonable expectation.”
“Security personnel at Parx were not patrolling this parking lot and camera surveillance was not being properly monitored, or it was simply ignored.”
