AGA welcomes loosening of restrictions on international travel
Announcement comes after Biden Administration scraps tests for people entering the country.
As Covid-19 becomes endemic and the strictures of the pandemic recede into the past, the gambling industry continues to celebrate new rounds of opening up. Last week it was the turn of the American government to further ease travel restrictions for international travels entering the US, a development that the American Gaming Association (AGA) celebrated in a statement.
The move, which was announced by the Biden administration, went into effect on June 12.
With the ease of cross-border travel increasing, Las Vegas and other major international destinations on the global gaming landscape are sure to see more traffic from those residing outside of the US.
According to AGA CEO and President Bill Miller: “By welcoming back international business and leisure travelers, the American gaming industry and our nation’s hospitality sector can fully recover. This move puts the United States on equal footing with other countries and will provide a major boost to our nation’s travel and hospitality industries.”
Miller went on to express gratitude to those players in government that helped the move happen: “The AGA and our members have been vocal proponents of this move for months, and we are thankful for the Nevada delegation and other champions in Congress who continue to support gaming communities across the country.
“We are grateful to the CDC, all those in the health and science community, and the Biden administration for tackling this enormous challenge and making this a reality.”
Despite the recognition of progress, Miller conceded that there was still more that could be done: “We ask the State Department to continue its work to speed up international processing time by investing in additional staff and allowing virtual interviews.
“Eliminating the testing requirements will undoubtedly open our doors to more international visitors and we should make the process for entry as efficient and accessible as possible.”
