MGM Resorts diversifies and contemporizes fine art collection
New acquisitions to be distributed across the company’s properties.
In an effort to reflect the values of diversity, equity and inclusion which guide contemporary corporate life, MGM Resorts has revealed its new acquisitions of fine art. While not only more broadly representing the variety of human experience, the new artworks also serve to contemporize the company’s collection.
Among the artists who will now go on display across MGM Resorts’ properties are Rashid Johnson, Sanford Biggers, Derrick Adams, Ghada Amer, Jonathon Lyndon Chase, Thomás Esson and Svenja Deininger.
The arrival of the new acquisitions does not imply the replacing of older works in the collection, and the new pieces will hang alongside the mainstays of MGM Resorts’ collection: Sam Gilliam, Lorna Simpson, Nick Cave, Jenny Holzer and Nancy Rubins.
The drive for diversity was emphasized, as many of the newly-purchased works are by artists of color, woman and people from the LGBTQIA+ community.
Said MGM Resorts Art & Culture Executive Director Tarissa Tiberti: “Acquiring words by Rashid Johnson, Sanford Biggers, Derrick Adams, Ghada Amer, Jonathan Lyndon Chase, Tomás Esson and Svenja Deininger propels the MGM Resorts Fine Art Collection significantly forward in our goal of giving voice to underrepresented artists.
“We look forward to sharing these important pieces with our guests from around the world and sparking conversation around all they represent.”
These sentiments were echoed by Chief Hospitality Officer Ari Kastrati: “We believe in the power of art to open minds, change perspectives and create transformation in society.
