Nate Simon named Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer of Churchill Downs

He brings 20 years of leadership and organizational skills to his new position.
Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) has promoted Nate Simon to the roles of Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. The role was previously held by Ben Murr, who was promoted last month to serve as the President of Online Gaming and of the horseracing wagering platform, TwinSpires.
Simon’s promotion takes effect immediately, and he will be responsible for providing strategic technology leadership and services for the company. He has 20 years of technology and organizational leadership experience.
He started his career with General Electric, where he completed the GE Information Management Leadership Program and worked as an Enterprise Resource Planning Project Leader. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Indiana University.
“I am very proud of the results Nate has delivered in modernizing United Tote over the past 10 years,” said Bill Carstanjen, CEO of CDI. “We look forward to him building on these contributions by delivering further innovation and growth to the Company as the Chief Technology Officer.”
Simon first joined CDI in 2011 as Vice President of Operations for its United Tote division and was later promoted to President in 2012. He was responsible for more than 200 employees across the United States and Canada and accountable for over $25m in global revenue. Prior to joining CDI, Simon served as the Global Head of IT Operations for Clariant.
