Buenos Aires banking and gambling programme hits 105,000 students

Banco Provincia, one of the biggest banks in Argentina, has delivered financial education training to more than 105,000 secondary school students across Buenos Aires Province through its Rico.en.data programme.
Developed in coordination with the provincial Directorate of Education, the initiative covers core personal finance topics including saving, investing, credit use and responsible consumption. During the academic year, the bank deployed 62 instructors across 2,250 schools, delivering 3,400 classroom sessions.
Each workshop runs for 75 minutes and uses interactive formats, combining audiovisual material with group participation. Students receive a completion certificate and a printed glossary of financial terms.
According to internal survey data from more than 4,300 participants, 90% of students said financial education was useful, while 80% reported they had never received formal personal finance training prior to the programme.
Banco Provincia President Juan Cuattromo described Rico.en.data as a structural shift in how financial education is delivered in public schools. He said the programme marks “a turning point” in embedding financial literacy into the secondary school system across the province.
Deputy Manager of Public and Institutional Relations Stefania Salerno said the programme also addresses misleading financial narratives that young people are exposed to online.
Salerno said: “Young people grow up in an environment saturated with financial messages, including false promises and the idea that it is possible to get rich effortlessly. We believe they need concrete tools to make responsible decisions based on knowledge.”
Beyond traditional finance topics, the curriculum includes modules on online gambling, deceptive advertising and the role of social media in influencing consumption and financial behaviour.
Argentine economist Candelaria Botto hosts the Rico.en.data podcast and participates in school sessions, providing contemporary context to issues such as digital spending habits and financial misinformation.
The programme targets third-year secondary students and focuses on practical, real-world applications rather than abstract economic theory. The initiative positions Banco Provincia as a key institutional actor in financial education policy at scale within Argentina’s largest province.
