Brazil: CBF partners with Genius Sports to deploy technology from 2026
The agreement brings advanced tracking systems and full integration to Brazil’s soccer events.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has formalized a major technological advancement for domestic competitions, confirming a partnership with Genius Sports to implement semi-automatic offside technology (SAOT) beginning in 2026.
The system will be deployed in all Série A matches, the competition with the biggest clubs in the country and throughout the Brazilian cup, marking a new phase in the federation’s strategy to modernise refereeing and strengthen competitive integrity.
Under the agreement, Genius Sports will manage the entire SAOT infrastructure, but its role extends far beyond offside calls.
The company will also deliver a comprehensive tracking ecosystem capable of monitoring players, referees and the ball in real time.
This package includes an advanced tactical analysis platform designed to assist both officiating and performance review, all fully integrated into the system already in place.
CBF President Samir Xaud reaffirmed that the adoption of SAOT reflects the organization’s commitment to precision, transparency and credibility in officiating.
“This move aligns with the most advanced practices in world football and CBF will continue working to ensure that our competitions are a benchmark for quality and fairness,” he says.
The technology, already used in top-tier international competitions, is expected to significantly reduce errors and increase confidence among clubs, fans and stakeholders as Brazil moves toward global standards in refereeing.
Each venue will receive 24 dedicated high-positioned cameras with full-pitch visibility and an exclusive server for data processing.
Netto Góes, president of the CBF’s Arbitration Working Group, described the partnership as a structural milestone for Brazilian refereeing, noting that a transparent, auditable and FIFA-aligned system will raise the overall quality of decision-making and strengthen trust in national competitions.
