AGA survey records first-ever 50%+ visitation for US casinos

The American Gaming Association (AGA) has released its annual consumer survey, as casino visitation across the US surpassed 50% for the first-time, while 74% of Americans were found to support legal and regulated sports betting. 

“These results underscore a sustainable foundation for the American gaming industry, reflecting strong consumer confidence in a state-regulated market as a safe and trusted form of entertainment,” AGA President and CEO Bill Miller said. 

The annual consumer survey showcases casino visitation, support for sports betting, legal preferences and increased recognition of the industry’s responsible gaming efforts.

78% of US residents currently view sports betting as a form of entertainment, as an additional 93% of sports bettors factor in legality prior to deciding which platform to wager on. The AGA found 90% of all iGaming consumers also factor in the legal status of platforms, but 40% of such players still have difficulty identifying licensed platforms. 

For states where sports betting is operational, 70% of residents stated the industry is responsible for all marketing and advertising efforts, which the AGA views as “critical” to helping players find legal options. 

“We will continue to build on this momentum by expanding the legal market, strengthening responsibility and ensuring gaming delivers for players and communities alike,” Miller said. 

In land-based casinos, 77% of retail players found responsible gaming programs to be effective, up from the 67% recorded by the AGA in 2018.

88% of sports bettors agreed with the sentiment, finding responsible gaming messaging helps to limit dangerous habits.
