Brazil’s Sports Ministry discusses integrity and regulation in the betting industry
Brazil’s Ministry of Sports reaffirmed its commitment to tackling match-fixing, calling it a matter of public policy.
Brazil’s Ministry of Sports participated in the opening day of the BiS Brasília 2025 conference, which gathered senior Government officials, regulators and executives from the country’s gaming and betting industries for two days of discussion on market regulation, taxation and integrity.
Giovanni Rocco, the National Secretary for Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports, emphasised that the fight against match-fixing must be treated as a public policy priority.
“In the work the Ministry of Sports is doing, our main responsibility is to protect the integrity of results, the integrity of athletes and those who make the wheel turn,” he said.
“A working group has been established with the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance and the Federal Police to build the National Policy to Combat Sports Result Manipulation. We see this as a matter of public policy.”
The interministerial group was formally created as a coordinated response to the growing number of match-fixing complaints across Brazilian sports, especially soccer.
It unites expertise from the Ministries of Sports, Justice and Public Security, Finance and the Federal Police to design an integrated strategy and establish national directives inspired by global best practices.
The conference takes place at a key moment for Brazil’s regulated betting market, with fixed-odds betting now officially operational under federal oversight and several state and municipal lotteries expanding.
Earlier this year, the Federal Government also launched an anonymous online platform to report suspected cases of match-fixing and betting-related corruption, reinforcing its commitment to integrity and transparency in sports.
