IGT delays push back Wisconsin sports betting launch at Oneida Casino
Oneida’s CFO acknowledged the casino couldn’t hit its deadline of launching in time for football season.
Oneida Casino in Green Bay, Wisconsin is expected to open the state’s first sportsbook between Weeks 9 to 11 of the NFL season after delays with International Gaming Technology pushed back the casino’s sports betting launch.
Oneida Chief Financial Officer Chad Fuss told Wisconsin TV affiliate NBC 26 that supply chain issues involving IGT’s PlaySports platform delayed the launch.
“We initially anticipated opening for the football season. We weren’t able to meet that timeline,” Fuss said. “Right after we signed that contract, at the end of summer, we started working on what would our sportsbook look like. And we identified that we would have some constraints, meaning that supply chain, which is mostly [due to] global pandemic right now, of getting different software, getting the chips in. So Oneida casino and IGT is not immune to that.”
He added, “Initial plan is going to be to open a temporary location on the gaming floor and at that time, coinciding, we’re going to have some construction at our current sports bar to be more conducive to our sports bet booking operation. Maybe something on a smaller scale to what you’d see in Las Vegas.”
Oneida and IGT formally announced a platform agreement in early September.
This summer Oneida became the first Wisconsin tribe approved to offer legalized sports betting after signing a revised gaming compact with the state.
Officials expect kiosk and retail wagering to up and running by mid to late November. Mobile wagering is expected to follow. Oneida’s compact with the state limits mobile wagering to on-premise limited by geofencing.
