Penn National receives approval for second Pennsylvania mini-casino
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board approved Penn National’s license to operate a second mini-casino which will be built at a York County mall about 30 minutes away from its flagship Hollywood Casino.
The mini-casino, named Hollywood Casino York, extends Penn National’s foothold in south
central Pennsylvania.
Earlier this year Penn National bid $50m for the rights to build the satellite casino.
Penn National is also opening a mini-casino near Reading off the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Penn National CEO Timothy Wilmott said: “We are very pleased with today’s unanimous
approval by the PGCB and look forward to opening the doors at Hollywood Casino York as soon as possible. The property will be ideally located to draw customers from south central
Pennsylvania and northern Maryland, while also protecting our existing market share at
Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.”
The 80,000-square-foot facility will fill the space of a former Sears.
The mini-casino is expected to hold 500 slot machines.
Pennsylvania’s 2017 gambling expansion law allowed for the development of a dozen Class Four satellite casinos which can occupy 750 slots and 30 table games.
Penn National faces growing competition in Pennsylvania, where sports betting was recently legalized.
Cordish will soon open a mini-casino outside Pittsburgh.
