Pennsylvania secures record revenue of $404m in April

Pennsylvania produced record gross gaming revenue of $404m in April, according to figures from the state’s Gaming Control Board.
April marks the second consecutive record-breaking month for Pennsylvania gaming. In March GGR was $403m.
The state’s 15 land-based casinos combined for $201m from slots and $78m from table games. Online casinos and poker generated another $106m in gross revenue, with online casino wagering topping $3.2bn.
“The reinvigorated land-based gaming market spurred by easing of COVID mitigation measures, coupled with the continued strong showing of play in the online sector, is good news for Pennsylvanians who will benefit from the tax revenues,” Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Communications Director Doug Harbach said.
Pennsylvania sportsbooks reported April handle of $479m, a decline of 14% from the month prior.
April produced the Keystone State’s smallest handle since September 2020. The dip in wagers was expected as the US sports calendar enters a slower period of the year.
Sports betting revenue was $36m down 14% from March.
Online sports wagers made up $439m, or 92%, of the total handle, on par with the month prior.
FanDuel/Valley Forge led the state in online handle with $168m, followed by DraftKings/The Meadows at $106m and Penn National’s Barstool Sportsbook/Hollywood Casino at $57.2m.
Rivers Philadelphia led retail sportsbooks with handle of $7.7m, edging out Parx Casino at $5.3m.
Pennsylvania earned $8.9m in state taxes from sports wagering last month and $526,000 in local share assessment.
Penn National led the state in online gaming revenue with $36m, followed by PlaySugarHouse/BetRivers/Rivers Philadelphia at $26.6m.
PokerStars/Mount Airy, the lone online poker operator, won $2.3m.
Pennsylvania received $25.5m in state taxes and $13.1m in local share assessments and county grants from online casinos and poker.
