Iowa casinos generate August 2025 revenue of $151.2m, increases 4.9%

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) has reported the state’s casino revenue throughout August 2025, having witnessed growth of 4.9% from the prior year period for a total of $151.2m.
For August 2025, Prairie Meadows Casino managed to generate the highest revenue of any property which reports to the IRGC, producing $21.2m for an increase of 6.2% year-over-year. Diamond Jo Worth and Rhythm City were also able to increase revenue by 10.1% and 5.5%, respectively, to report totals of $10.5m and $10.3m throughout the period.
Horseshoe Council Bluffs Casino and Ameristar were also able to eclipse the $10m mark with August 2025 revenues of $15.3m and $14.1m, but witnessed decreases of 1% and 4.4%, respectively, from the prior year period. Riverside Casino reported $11.1m in revenue for a decrease of 1.7%, while Wild Rose Jefferson fell 4.9% to $2.9m.
Penn Entertainment first released plans to build a new Hollywood Casino property in Council Bluffs, Iowa on April 24 after securing a partnership with Gaming and Leisure Properties (GLPI) to fund up to $150m of an expected $180-200m project budget.
The approval came in conjunction with a 15-year extension of Ameristar’s partnership with the nonprofit Qualified Sponsoring Organization Iowa West Racing Association, which is a requirement for all commercial operations conducting business within the state.

Both slot machines and table games were able to increase revenue from the prior year period, rising 4.1% and 12.1%, respectively, for totals of $136.7m and $14.5m throughout August 2025. Iowa gamblers generated a slot machine handle of nearly $1.4bn for the period, while table game activity witnessed just over $67m worth of wagers in August 2025.
The IRGC reported state tax contributions of nearly $28.1m from operators, including $1m shared with the Iowa Endowment Fund.
