Detroit casinos generate $114m throughout May 2025

The total represents an increase of just 0.7% from the prior year period, as retail sports betting adjusted gross revenue fell by 31.1% year-over-year to $1.3m.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has released casino revenue figures for May 2025 from the three properties which report to the MGCB, including MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown. The total revenue generated by each of the three casinos was reported to be $114m, representing an increase of 0.7% from the prior year period.
MGM Grand Detroit produced the highest revenue total of the three properties, accounting for nearly $53.2m and rising by 2.4% year-over-year. MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino reported approximate revenue totals of $34.5m and $26.2m, respectively, for May 2025, representing an increase of 0.6% from the prior year period but also a decrease of 0.2% year-over-year.
The total revenue produced by table games and slots was reported to be $112.7m by the MGCB, equating to an increase of 1.2% from the prior year period and 3% month-over-month. From January 1-May 31, 2025, table games and slots revenue decreased by 0.2% compared to the same period throughout 2024.
The three properties also paid a total of $9.1m in state gaming taxes, which represents a small increase of just $100k from the prior year period. Additionally, the casinos provided $13.4m in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the city of Detroit for May 2025.

Unlike its table games and slots counterpart, retail sports wagering adjusted gross revenue decreased by 31.1% from the prior year period for a total of just $1.3m, as Michigan managed to generate a sports betting handle of $9.2m for May 2025.
Despite the decrease witnessed year-over-year, however, retail sports wagering adjusted gross revenue still managed to increase by over $964.7k from the total reported throughout April 2025.
