Massachusetts casinos generate $97.9m in January revenue

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has published the state’s casino and sports betting results for the month of January.
Its three casinos, Plainridge Park Casino, MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor, yielded nearly $97.9m in gross gaming revenue (GGR) last month.
Slot machines accounted for nearly $66.2m of the state’s total GGR in January, while table games brought in another $31.7m.
Encore Boston Harbor was the top earner last month and generated more than half of the state’s combined casino GGR. The casino reported a monthly revenue of $61.4m.
MGM Springfield ended the month with nearly $22.8m in revenue from table games and slots. Plainridge Park Casino brought in close to $13.8m in total revenue during January.
Last month, all three casinos paid a total of nearly $27.8m to the state in taxes.
Sports betting last month generated a $762.5m handle, with $751.4m coming from bets placed online and another $11.1m from retail licensees.
Good to know: Retail sports betting became legal in Massachusetts in January 2023, followed by online sports betting market in March 2023
Online and retail sports betting locations generated close to $57.5m in taxable gaming revenue in December. The state collected almost $11.5m in taxes from online and retail sports betting last month.
In other state news, the MGC recently released an official seal of approval that licensed operators around the state must include on their digital platforms.
