Palladium Society inductees contribute millions in support of UNLV

The Society now includes more than 125 donors who have each given more than $1m for initiatives, projects and causes.
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Foundation recently honored its 2024 class of Palladium Society inductees with a ceremony held at University President Keith Whitfield’s home.
During the event, William Boyd and the Boyd family received a Palladium Ruby award for contributions totaling more than $25m to UNLV. The Foundation also recognized nine other individuals or organizations for gifts reaching or exceeding $1m.
Whitfield addressed the “significant roles” Palladium Society-level donors play in helping UNLV grow and build success when welcoming the attendees, having said, “As Las Vegas took shape and thrived, you laid the foundation for UNLV to rise along with it.
“Because of your leadership, UNLV is better able to address key challenges in access to education, healthcare, law, business development and student wellbeing. Thank you for providing our students with amazing opportunities that raise the bar for all of us.”
He also noted that the school’s enrollment has just reached an all-time high of 32,900 students. Nearly half of those students will be the first in their family to graduate from college as stated by Whitfield, with many benefitting from the support of donor-funded scholarships and programs.
Leah Chan Grinvald, Dean of the William S. Boyd School of Law, presented the Palladium Ruby award to Marianne Boyd Johnson, Executive Chairman of the Board for Boyd Gaming, and Sam Boyd Jr.
“It is an honor to welcome Bill Boyd and the Boyd family into the Palladium Ruby Society,” Grinvald said.
“Mr. Boyd’s vision of legal education in Nevada, coupled with the family’s generosity, launched a success story with the William S. Boyd School of Law growing into one of the top-ranked public law schools in the country.”
Some of the notable inductees that were also recognized during the event include the Las Vegas Raiders, which donated $1m to UNLV Athletics and recently partnered with the School of Public Health, as well as Tom and Leslie Thomas, who funded a small business initiative in Boyd Law’s Thomas and Mack Legal Clinic.
“The numbers speak volumes, their gifts have made UNLV stronger and more relevant. And beyond just numbers, they have inspired generations of students, faculty and leadership to dream bigger and achieve success,” UNLV Foundation President Rickey McCurry said.
