Michigan Gaming Control Board approves renewed licenses for Detroit casinos
These will be up for review again in a year.
Members of the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) have voted to approval license renewals for all three casinos in Detroit.
The board unanimously approved the renewals during its latest scheduled public meeting. The review process involved making sure each casino’s operations remained in compliance, a requirement of the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act.
MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams commented, “I am pleased to announce the unanimous approval of the license renewals for Detroit’s three authorized commercial casinos.
“This decision reaffirms our confidence in the casinos’ commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity, security, and fairness in their operations. We look forward to continued cooperation with the casinos to ensure the best possible experience for patrons while prioritizing responsible gaming practices.”
Detroit’s casinos will be eligible for license renewals again in August 2025.
In addition to renewing licenses for MotorCity, MGM Grand Detroit and Hollywood Casino at Greektown, the board voted to allow more small businesses to provide services and goods to the city’s casinos.
Williams further explained the terms of Board Resolution 2024-03, which will give subcontractors “greater flexibility by allowing them to provide up to $500,000 in nongaming-related goods and services to each casino licensee annually.”
Williams concluded by saying, “This adjustment, known as the ‘Subcontractor 2’ exemption, aligns with the Board’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and diverse supplier landscape within the Detroit casino industry.
“Enabling subcontractors to operate similarly to vendor-exempt businesses brings significant positives for businesses, providing new job opportunities and driving economic growth within the industry.”
The MGCB recently published last month’s revenue results for all three Detroit casinos, which posted $105.9m in combined revenue during July.
