Las Vegas Sands partners with Collin Morikawa on youth empowerment project
The six-time PGA Tour winner will represent Sands as its latest champion ambassador.
Las Vegas Sands has teamed up with PGA Tour winner Collin Morikawa to “build strong and resilient communities with priorities on youth development and community revitalization in areas of need.”
The two will work together to support golf clinics that are designed to develop leadership skills in youth.
As part of the initiative, Sands has committed to donating $100,000 to the Maggie Hathaway Golf Course restoration project in Los Angeles. A renovation project at the course is currently underway.
The 2023 US Open Community Legacy Campaign seeks to redesign the nine-hole course as a “hub for junior golf development,” with a goal to raise $15m for the project.
Morikawa’s role with Sands Las Vegas is to continue previous work he has done in supporting other company resort golf clinics.
Morikawa grew up in the Los Angeles area but now lives in Las Vegas. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business in 2019.
Morikawa briefly discussed his ongoing relationship with Sands and said he looks forward to collaborating with the company again.
He commented, “I’ve had the opportunity to work with Sands in New York and Macao, and we are very much aligned in our commitment to leverage the sport of golf to advance youth development and build leadership skills.
“But I’m just as excited that we share a vision for creating strong communities by addressing areas that need the infusion of resources we can bring to the table. Working together, we will create many opportunities for our joint community priorities.”
Sands Chairman and CEO Robert G. Goldstein expressed similar sentiments regarding past collaborations with Morikawa.
He said, “Collin is an outstanding partner for us on many fronts, first and foremost because of his leadership both on and off the course.
“Between our mutual home of Las Vegas and shared Asia roots, we intend to create a host of opportunities to advance the priorities and causes that are equally important to us.”
