Virginia reports $5m decrease in monthly casino gaming revenue

The state currently has three casinos in operation, HR Bristol, Rivers Casino Portsmouth and Caesars Virginia.
The Virginia Lottery has released its April report for the total gaming revenue of the three casinos currently situated in the state. After a figure of nearly $65.1m was reported in March, the state saw a slight decrease in revenue, only reporting $60.1m in the month of April.
Rivers Casino Portsmouth continued to have the highest revenue out of the three properties, generating just over $26.4m during the month. As the other casinos saw, most of the revenue came from slots, representing 69.7% of the revenue Rivers Casino Portsmouth generated.
Caesars Virginia, the newest property of the three having opened in May 2023, was second in revenue, generating slightly more than $19.7m in revenue for April. The full casino in Caesars Virginia has yet to be opened, but is expected to be ready by later this year. Construction began on the site in August of 2022 after a partnership was formed between Caesars and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
Finally, HR Bristol, having opened in May 2022, reported the lowest total of gaming revenue. The casino generated nearly $14m during the month of April.
The state is currently attempting to gain approval for a Live! Casino and Hotel in the city of Petersburg, though questions about which company will build the planned $1.4bn property remain unanswered.
