Tech industry veteran Matteo Monteverdi eyes sports betting opportunities in US.

Interactive gaming and sports betting technology company Elys Game Technology, Corp. on Wednesday said Matteo Monteverdi will be its new CEO effective 1 January, 2021.

Monteverdi has been serving as an independent strategic advisor to the company since March of this year and was appointed president in September.

According to Elys, Monteverdi spent the last 10 years involved with social gaming, digital betting, iGaming and media, working for international organizations in high growth segments. He was also the US president of Sportradar, where he is credited with helping the company sign exclusive distribution deals with the NBA, NFL and MLB, and served as SVP global digital products for International Gaming Technology, where he led its real money and social gaming global businesses.

Michele (Mike) Ciavarella, chairman and CEO of Elys, said he expects Monteverdi will help the company grow its online and land-based retail channels.

“Matteo brings more than 20 years of industry experience, including an amazing track record in the betting, gaming and technology sectors,” Ciavarella said in a statement. “In the short time since joining the company, he has already demonstrated his leadership and continuous innovation.”

Monteverdi added: “Given the convergence of shifts in the US regulatory landscape and technological innovation, Elys is positioned to capitalize on emerging trends as sport betting evolves into new forms of entertainment at the intersection of media and gaming.”
