Basketball star LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers has joined operator DraftKings as a talent ambassador around football, and select key tentpole events, as part of a multi-year agreement.
It has been said that James himself, who announced the deal on his Twitter account, is a football fan and even played the sport in high school, maintaining an interest in it.
Through this deal, the NBA player will help to support key football initiatives and tentpole events through content creation, which will include weekly football picks, among other things.
This isn’t the first time a basketball player has been involved with DraftKings, with the legendary Michael Jordan joining as a Special Advisor to the Board back in September of 2020, taking an equity interest in the company in exchange for providing guidance and strategic advice to the board.
DraftKings CEO and Co-Founder Jason Robins said: “Welcoming one of the most influential and greatest athletes of all time, LeBron James, to the DraftKings family is an absolute honor and privilege,.
“We look forward to working with a passionate sports fan who shares the same competitive mindset that echoes throughout the walls at DraftKings, while delivering exciting engagement opportunities to our customers and his loyal fanbase for years to come.”
In other DraftKings news this week, DraftKings’ Service, Equity, Responsibly, Vitality, Environment, Sports (S.E.R.V.E.S) department partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees in local communities, with the pair recently celebrating planting more than one million trees as part of a multi-year agreement.
