Encore Boston Harbor had the highest revenue for the month.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has published its casino and sports betting results for the month of December. The regulator reported that the state’s three casinos posted a gross gaming revenue (GGR) of nearly $103.1m for the month.

Slots in December accounted for $68.7m of the state’s total GGR, while table games brought in another $34.3m.

In a breakdown of earnings by casino, MGM Springfield brought in $23.6m in revenue from table games and slots during the month. Encore Boston Harbor raked in $65.8m in revenue in December, while Plainridge Park Casino brought in close to $14m in revenue from slot and table games.

During December, Plainridge Park Casino, MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor paid $29m in state taxes.

To date, all three casinos have paid close to $1.62bn in taxes to the state since the destinations have opened, according to the report. All three casinos hold Category 1 licenses, which allow them to operate retail sports betting locations in their casinos.

In the area of sports betting, the state reported setting nearly $643.2m in wagers during the month of December and paid close to $11.9m in state taxes.

The state’s online and retail sports betting locations contributed almost $61m in taxable sports wagering revenue as well for December.

Retail sports betting became legal in Massachusetts in January 2023. The state welcomed the online sports betting market in March 2023.

BetMGM, Betr, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, ESPN Bet, Fanatics Betting & Gaming, FanDuel, and WynnBet currently hold licenses in the state to function as Category 3 operators.
