State casino revenue grew by more than 23% year-over-year.

The Illinois Gaming Board has published its statewide casino revenue report for the month of December. Adjusted gross receipts for the month totaled $141.2m across Illinois’ 15 casinos from slots and table games.

Casino revenue during the month surpassed November’s total by nearly $11m. The report also reflected that last month’s revenue rose by $27m when compared to December 2022’s total.

Rivers Casino, Grand Victoria Casino and Harrah's Joliet Casino & Hotel pulled ahead of the pack as the heavy hitters for the month, with revenue reaching $45.4m, $12.8m and $11.2m respectively.

Bally's Chicago Operating Company, the state’s newest casino, posted $8.5m in revenue for December. The casino reported a revenue boost of 11.7% when compared to its results from November. The temporary Chicago casino at Medinah Temple welcomed its first guests on September 9.

During December, Illinois’ 15 casinos generated nearly $33.8m in revenue from table games. Rivers Casino, Bally’s Chicago and Grand Victoria Casino grabbed the top three spots in table games earnings.

Rivers Casino also slid into top spot for electronic slot revenue last month. The casino posted close to $26.8m in earnings. Grand Victoria Casino and Harrah's Joliet Casino & Hotel held the number two and three spots, bringing in $10.2m and $9.7m respectively.

The state’s casinos submitted more than $37.8m in state taxes for December, along with another $8.5m in local tax payments.

Bally’s said it anticipates opening a permanent Chicago casino by 2026. The new venue will be home to 4,000 gaming positions, as well as to an exhibition hall, 500-room hotel, a 3,000-seat theater and 10 restaurants.
