The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) has announced that Brad Bohannon, who coached the Alabama baseball team between 2018 and 2023, and an associate are set to be banned from Ohio Casinos, pending an appeal.
This is owing to an alleged inside information scheme involving a Crimson Tide baseball game.
The Executive Director at the OCCC, Matt Schuler, said Indiana businessman Bert Neff Jr solicited and received non-public information from Bohannon on April 28 with the purpose of “placing a sports wager,” information which Neff then shared with one or more individuals.
The bets Neff is said to have placed had to do with an Alabama-LSU baseball game on April 28, with the BetMGM Sportsbook at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.
The wager he placed was related to LSU beating Alabama and the wager he attempted, which drew suspicion owing to the size of it, was on the Tigers to beat the Crimson Tide.
Neff was said to be communicating with Bohannon while placing the bet, revealed by video surveillance at the sportsbook, which led to Alabama firing Bohannon from his role as coach.
According to Schuler, both Bohannon and Neff have been sent letters that describe the Commission's intent to place the pair on the involuntary exclusion list, which they have 30 days to appeal against after receiving the notification.
Back in May, the University of Cincinnati announced the dismissal of its Director of Baseball Operations, Andy Nagel, and its Assistant Coach, Kyle Sprague, over potential gambling infractions.
