Over the weekend, New York state's casino operation was hit by a cyber attack, which led to the closure of Jake's 58 Casino in Islandia, while two hospitals within the Hudson Valley area, namely the HealthAlliance Hospital and the Margaretville Hospital, were also hit by a cyber attack.
The cyber attack led to the two hospitals in question being forced to divert their patients elsewhere, while the Mountainside nursing home was also impacted by the cyber attack across the weekend. The hospitals did remain open and were able to treat walk-in patients, with ambulance services being restored by 7:00 PM Saturday night.
The State Gaming commission released a statement confirming that its central operating system had been affected by the incident.
Gaming Comission Spokesperson Brad Maione said,“On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, Everi, the licensed operator of New York’s video lottery gaming central system, experienced a cybersecurity event that remains under investigation.
“The Commission has no indication that personal identifiable information was compromised. The Commission continues to monitor the situation.”
While Jake's 58 casino was closed down for several days, other casino operators, who were also impacted by the cyber attack, did not have to close down for an extended period.
James Featherstonhaugh, Part-Owner of Saratoga Casino, said, "We shut down for a brief period. It got cleared up fairly quickly. It was all the same issue. It got everyone’s attention."
