Members of the Culinary Workers Union are due to go on a rally next week along the Las Vegas Strip after it was announced on Saturday, which will include a civil disobedience order, with workers looking for a new five-year contract.
The rally is due to take place just off Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard, with reports that 75 of the members will take part in a civil disobedience action, around the middle of the strip.
The call for the rally comes as culinary workers look to get a new five-year union contract, which includes areas regarding wages, protections against new technology, improved safety conditions, among other things.
Just under two weeks ago, the workers themselves participated in a picket outside in front of eight MGM and Caesars resort, something they hadn’t done in nearly two decades, especially in the wake of the rising cost of living and as casino operators post record profits.
The Culinary Workers and Bartenders Unions had met with MGM, Caesars Entertainment and Wynn Resorts earlier on in the month, after its members had voted 95% in favor of a strike back in September.
This rally comes in the wake of last week’s strike in Detroit when about 3700 workers from a number of casinos, including MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino Hotel and Hollywood Casino at Greektown, went on strike after negotiations had failed in an attempt to get higher wages and other benefits.
