Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board releases annual casino diversity report

The PA Gaming Control Board revealed that 90% of its employees are residents of Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has released its 16th Annual Diversity Report, providing a description of each casino’s activities related to their diversity plans.

The report discussed the action taken by the casinos to achieve the Commonwealth’s goal of increased representation and visibility of diverse groups in the gaming industry. 

Key figures included in the Diversity Report show: Pennsylvania’s 17 casinos collectively employed 15,461 persons at the close of the state fiscal year of 2022-2023.

Of those employees, 13,863 (90%), are residents of Pennsylvania; 41% of those employed are racial minorities while 42% are female.

For this financial year, the state has 4,918 table games employees and out of that, 4,150 (84%) are Pennsylvania residents.

The casinos with the highest percentage of Pennsylvania residents are Mohegan Pennsylvania, with 100% Pennsylvania residents, as well as Hollywood Casino at Penn National Racecourse staff and Live! Casino Pittsburgh that are made up of 99% Pennsylvania residents.

Additionally, Executive/Management roles consist of 2,519 people; of those, 64% are male, 36% are female and 27% are minorities. 

During 2022-2023 casinos spent around $838.4m with other businesses for construction and non-construction expenses.

PA Gaming Control Board also donated $12.9m to charity statewide during FY 22/ 23. Of that, Parx Casino donated the most with $8.7m.

When it comes to racial diversity, 59% of workers statewide are white; 16% are African American; 12% are Asian; 8% are Hispanic; and the remaining 5% are categorized as ‘other.’

Compared to FY 21/22, employees of a caucasian background decreased by 2%; African American employees increased 1%; Hispanic employees increased 1%; Asian employees decreased by 1% and ‘other’ increased by 1%.
