The American Gaming Association kicked off Responsible Gaming Education Month 2023 with data from a new consumer survey that shows widespread awareness of responsible gaming.
The survey found that 84% of past-year gamblers are aware of at least one responsible gaming resource. That includes 91% of sports bettors.
The survey also found that past-year gamblers report they have high confidence in the effectiveness of responsible gaming tools, policies and initiatives. Three-quarters or more of players say the following measures are effective ways to encourage responsible play:
- Deposit limits, 85%
- Time Limits, 78%
- Wager Limits, 77%
- Employee Training, 77%
- Industry Code of Conduct, 75%
More than half of sports bettors (53%) say they've seen an increase in responsible gaming messaging over the past year.
AGA VP, Responsibility Cait DeBaun said, “Our industry’s success is based on earning customer trust, providing safeguards for responsible gaming, and implementing tools that our customers engage to bet responsibly.
"Today’s data shows our united effort to elevate responsible gaming is clearly resonating with players and shaping a safer gaming landscape.”
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Responsible Gaming Education Month. Each week of the month will focus on a different theme:
- September 1-10, Empowering Customers to Play Responsibly
- September 11-17, Legal, Regulated Gaming Protects Players
- September 18-24, Building a Responsible Gaming Culture Within
- September 25-30, Advancing Responsible Gaming with Research
DeBaun said, “This month provides a focused opportunity for the gaming community to come together to highlight and advance our efforts. We look forward to joining with our members, regulators, leagues, media and all stakeholders to uphold our collective responsibility for responsibility.”
