
The Board of Directors of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has appointed Dr. Karin Schnarr as CEO and Registrar of the Commission.
Schnarr is experienced in academia as well as both the public and private sectors. She’s an Associate Professor, Strategic Management, at the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University. There, she has worked as Director of MBA and BBA Programs and was a member of the university's Board of Governors and Senate.
She's also held several roles in the Government of Ontario, including as Chief of Staff to ministers in multiple portfolios. In those roles, she guided the development of public policy, legislation and regulations. She recently served as Chair of the Ontario Government's Task Force on Women and the Economy.
Schnarr also has a long history of serving on boards of directors across several sectors and industries. She was the Chair of the Board of Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario and the Vice-Chair of the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board. She also volunteers on the National Advocacy Committee for ALS Canada and was on the board of the Kids Health Foundation. She is a former member of the iGaming Ontario Board of Directors.
Schnarr received her PhD in Strategic Management (Corporate Governance) and her MBA from Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. She also holds a Masters of Arts in English Literature from Queen's University and Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Waterloo.
Schnarr replaces the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario outgoing CEO and Registrar Tom Mungham, who announced his retirement in March 2023. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario is a provincial regulatory agency that reports to the Ministry of the Attorney General. It's a corporation under the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario Act, 2019.
It's responsible for regulating alcohol, gaming, horseracing and private cannabis retail sectors in Ontario.
