Las Vegas businessman and philanthropist Billy Walters will release his autobiography, “Gambler: Secrets from a Life at Risk” August 22, according to a local report in the Las Vegas Review Journal.
Written with Armen Keteyian, Walters tells his life story in the world of sports betting and chronicles his “rags-to-riches” journey.
Walters hails from the rural community of Munfordville, Kentucky, where he lived with his Grandmother. He grew up in a one-bedroom rental and had no access to running water. Walters outlined in his books the struggles of his early life, which included overcoming addiction, surviving violence, robberies and his time in prison.
The author had been indicted six times and served 31 months in prison after an “insider trading” conviction.
Since the 1980s, Walters has placed billions of dollars in bets to earn hundreds of millions. Walters applied computer models and algorithms to his sports betting strategy.
He shared with the Review Journal his reflections regarding his life and sports betting story.
Walters said, “I’ve had more ups and downs than most. That’s a gambler’s life. You’ll have good days and it’s chicken, and you’ll have bad days and it’s nothing but feathers.”
He went on to discuss his motivation for writing the book.
Walters concluded by saying, “I love gamblers, and now that my dream has come true with legalized gambling throughout the United States, I want to share everything I know about sports betting and gambling with the world.
“I wanted to share my entire life because I know I can help a lot of people. I’ve had addictions. I’ve been up. I’ve been down.”
