Indiana’s sports betting handle down 10% for July

The state has generated more than $4bn in wagers since the market opened.

The Indiana Gaming Commission has published its gaming results for July. The Hoosier State’s sportsbooks raked in a total of $203.8m during the month, reflecting a 10% drop in productivity when compared to earnings from June.

However, total sportsbook revenue for the month reached $23.3m, representing a 19.5% boost from June.

So far this year, Indiana’s sports betting handle has reached the $4bn mark, according to the latest report.

DraftKings Sportsbook IN emerged as the top earner during the month of July over FanDuel Sportsbook IN. Last month DraftKings brought in $77.6m in bets, while FanDuel finished the month with $62.7m in total wagers.

But when it came to revenue, FanDuel outperformed DraftKings with a revenue total of $8.3m versus $7.7m.

Indiana bettors wagered more on baseball than on any other sports betting category during July, with bets reaching more than $69.4m. Hoosiers bet nearly $12.6m on basketball, close to $56.2m on parlay, $2.4m on football and another $62.9m on other events.

In addition to sports betting earnings, Indiana’s 12 casinos walked away in July with a $192.7m in adjusted gross revenue.

Horseshoe Hammond and Horseshoe Indianapolis were neck and neck for the top spot, with Horseshoe Indianapolis edging out Horseshoe Hammond for the lead in July. Horseshoe Indianapolis generated $25.5m in adjusted gross revenue, while Horseshoe Hammond brought in $25m.

Hoosier slot machines brought in close to $173.2m in revenue last month, along with another $39.5m coming from table games.

During the month of July, Indiana’s casinos paid a total of nearly $4.2m in supplemental taxes to the state, along with a sports wagering tax amount of nearly $2.2m. Wagering taxes during July came to $25.2m.
