The Homewood Village Board recently passed a resolution involving Wind Creek Hospitality and East Hazel Crest regarding a pending Illinois casino project, according to a local report in the Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle. The board approved a redevelopment agreement for the ongoing suburban casino project, Wind Creek Chicago Southland.
Homewood Village Manager Napoleon Haney told local news that the redevelopment deal “includes a special tax increment financing (TIF) arrangement on the Homewood side, a kind of TIF subdistrict.”
He said that “if the casino and parking garage do not generate sufficient incremental property taxes to reimburse the developer’s TIF eligible expenses, neither village is obligated to make up this shortfall from incremental tax revenues generated by other properties within each TIF.”
Once completed, the new venue will be home to a casino, hotel and parking structure. Wind Creek broke ground on the project in June 2022, after gaining approval for a license in December 2021.
The new casino, Wind Creek Chicago Southland, is scheduled to open next spring. The $440m destination will be home to a gaming floor, as well as offices and a 75,000 square-foot entertainment venue right off the main gaming floor that will take up two levels.
Along with the casino space, Wind Creek Chicago Southland will feature a 16-story hotel with a skyline lounge, indoor pool, spa, convention center and 252 rooms.
Wind Creek Hospitality is owned and operated by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Alabama. Its multiple casino locations include Wind Creek Atmore, Wind Creek Aruba, Wind Creek Bethlehem, Wind Creek Curacao, Wind Creek Montgomery, Wind Creek Wetumpka and Wa She Shu Casino in Nevada.
The brand recently signed a multi-year agreement with NBA team the Chicago Bulls and will collaborate with the Bulls on several entertainment options and in-game fan promotions.
