The state's casino win has slightly decreased, but – unsurprisingly – iGaming and sports betting saw healthy growth.

New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement has released its April figures for Atlantic City's nine casinos, iGaming and sports betting. Garden State ‘casino win’ dropped 1.6% to $231.5m, but other metrics were up, with total gaming revenue reaching $462.7m for the month.

Of the casino win, slot machines proved to be more popular than table games, coming in at $169.7m, or 73.3% of total casino win. This represents a slight decrease from the previous year; however, where slot machines generated $175.2m.

The New Jersey casino operator with the highest individual win was MGM’s Borgata, with $58.1m, although this was still down 5.7% from April last year; it also led iGaming with $43.2m. Hard Rock generated $38.8m in casino win (also down from $40.6m). Ocean Casino saw the highest increase of 30.3% to $34.2m.

Though the month of April had a slightly lower casino win, the year-to-date figures had risen 4.6% to reach $886.8m. However, New Jersey’s iGaming win grew 16.1%, for a total of $158.9m.

The largest increase was an impressive 43.6% in the state’s sports wagering figures reported by casinos, racetracks and sports betting partners. April revenue reached $72.3m, while year-to-date revenue also increased 40.6% to reach $292.3m. Sports betting’s highest April revenue by an individual operator, $20.2m, came from Resorts Digital.

April's sports betting handle totalled $834m, with $798.4m of that figure coming from online wagering. April’s handle makes up 22% of the year-to-date handle.

Completed events in sports wagering categories with the most win this year were parlay bets, followed by basketball bets.

This makes casino gaming 50% of the state’s total April gaming revenue, with iGaming making up 34.3% and sports wagering seemingly catching up at 15.6% of the month’s total. Year-to-date figures have risen 12.4% to a total of $1.8bn.
