The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has announced the recipients of grants in its Spring 2023 Agility Grant program. Five organizations have been given a total of $193,000 to aid with their problem gambling prevention programs.
Agility Grants help non-profit organizations create and run problem gambling prevention programs in areas that currently do not have the resources available or need more assistance to expand their services. Over $1m in Agility Grants will be awarded over three years nationwide.
The NFL Foundation’s public awareness program, focused on responsible sports betting education, makes the Agility Grant program possible. Additional funding and support is also provided by FanDuel.
Clare Graff, NFL VP of Social Responsibility, said, “We’re proud to support the innovative work the NCPG is doing. The funding for these Agility Grants through the NFL Foundation will provide critical resources to non-profit organizations across the country who are on the front lines of problem gambling prevention.”
Spring 2023 received a high number of grant applications, but the NCPG has chosen the following programs:
- The Hispanic Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Program for Hispanic Youth in Cleveland, Ohio
- The National Alliance on Mental Illness, Maryland Chapter
- The Nevada Council on Problem Gambling’s Student-Athlete Gambling Awareness (SAGA) program in Las Vegas area high schools
- Nicasa Behavioral Health Services’ Teen Problem Gambling Group in various northern Illinois high schools
- Student Assistance Services’ Hidden Hazards of Youth Gambling project for at-risk youth ages 12-17 in Terrytown, New York
Keith Whyte, NCPG Executive Director, said, " The prevention programs supported by this round of Agility Grants demonstrate innovative models designed to reach priority populations and elevate new voices within the problem gambling prevention community.”
Agility Grant funding is awarded twice a year. Fall 2023 grant applications open in July.
