Supplier plans to launch Crab Sports in Maryland and expand existing partnerships in the Keystone State.

A Maryland Online Sports Wagering Operator license has been awarded to Gaming Innovation Group (GiG). The company has also been awarded a full Interactive Gaming Manufacturer License in Pennsylvania. GiG has further plans to launch its iGaming platform and sportsbook with new partner brands in North America.

The supplier has established its US presence over the last five years with licenses in New Jersey and Iowa, and also has multiple live partners in regulated Ontario, Canada.

The license, issued by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA), allows GiG to launch Crab Sports this May. The brand has prioritized catering to the local market and has been ‘backed by Maryland people.’ GiG’s hope is that Crab Sports will give the supplier a firm standing in a complex market.

There are currently 10 retail and eight mobile sportsbooks operating in Maryland.  A total handle of $441.5m and gross gaming revenue of $59.6m was generated in the Old Line State for January alone. Eilers & Krejcik research highlights the state’s potential for growth.

GiG’s full license from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) will enable a future brand launch with an existing North American partner. GiG now offers access to over 30 markets.

Claudio Caruana, General Counsel for GiG, said, “We’re pleased with the confirmation of our licences in two new US states. Regulation will continue to drive the industry in North America, allowing us to support and protect operators and their customers, establishing suitable, robust frameworks for sustainable growth.”

Marcel Elfersy, CCO at GiG, said, “With plans to open our new US hub later this year, our new licenses in these attractive online markets create further opportunity for us to add value for new and established partners in the region. We’re excited about the possibilities these new states provide.”
